New Orleans Screams

Tuesday 6 September 2005.

Howls
of screeches and screams
could be heard across the black,
rain-filled sky
in the large domed building.

Children crying,
Mothers dying,
Fathers on the look-out
Running here and there
for loved ones lost.

Gone forever
Amidst the debris
of broken dreams,
New Orleans.

White folks running
Hither and thither
Black folks sitting still
waiting.

Waiting for the help
that never came too soon
Shame shame.

The blame
Game of politics
Not over.

God awaitin’ still
Now breath
Still.
